Mr. Copeland proudly served eight years in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed the leadership, discipline, and commitment to service that continue to guide his legal practice. Following his military service, he spent twelve years in the federal government, working primarily in the field of immigration, where he gained extensive experience navigating complex regulatory systems and high‑stakes legal decision‑making.
In addition to his public service background, Mr. Copeland has a strong academic foundation in accounting and law, allowing him to approach legal matters with a practical, analytical, and financially informed perspective. Earlier in his career, he practiced as a licensed real estate attorney, handling real estate transactions and closings and advising clients on property‑related matters.

Alabama Evictions
- Evictions in Alabama must follow a court process. A landlord generally cannot remove a tenant, change locks, shut off utilities, or otherwise engage in "self-help" eviction. The landlord must provide the required notice and, if necessary, file an unlawful detainer action in court to obtain possession of the property.
- Common grounds for eviction include nonpayment of rent, violation of lease terms, criminal activity, property damage, or remaining in possession after the lease has expired.
- Notice requirements vary by the reason for eviction. For example, Alabama law generally requires a 7-day notice for nonpayment of rent and provides different notice periods for certain lease violations and month-to-month tenancy terminations.
- If the tenant fails to comply with the notice, the landlord may file an unlawful detainer action in the appropriate Alabama court seeking possession of the premises.
- Tenants have the right to contest the eviction in court and may assert applicable defenses, including improper notice, retaliation, discrimination, or other legal defenses recognized under Alabama law.
- Only after a court order and writ of possession are issued may law enforcement remove a tenant from the property if the tenant does not voluntarily vacate.
